Welcome to the home of Devon County Junior Choir

We are very pleased to announce that Exeter Cathedral and Devon Music Service are launching a Senior Choir to follow on from the very successful Devon County Junior Choir.

Called Schola Exe, this choir is for students in Years 9 – 13. It will be jointly directed by David Davies (Assistant Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral) and Rachel Smith (Assistant Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral School).

Schola Exe will initially run for a trial period from February to July, but with the eventual aim for it to become a permanent feature in the music making opportunities for young people in Devon. During the trial period there will be no cost to be a member of Schola Exe. For its continuation, however, parents will be invited to make a termly donation in line with DCJC.

The repertoire will be as varied as possible, and will be a mixture of sacred and secular music, from the Renaissance to modern day pop classics and songs from the shows. Once we are established as a choir, there will be lots of performing opportunities, including the occasional service within the Cathedral, and there will be at least one concert in the Summer Term as our initial aim.

Weekly practices will be held on Saturdays from 11.30am – 12.45pm in either Kalendar Hall (the Music Department of Exeter Cathedral School) or the Cathedral Chapter House.

Admission to the choir requires the successful completion of an audition. In the first instance, these will be held on Saturday 18^th February – you will be notified of the time. You will need to have a prepared song to sing to us (please bring an accompaniment too) and we shall also do some simple ear tests. For applications received after this date, auditions will be held either before or after the weekly practice as soon as possible after receipt of the application form.

All staff are subject to Enhanced CRB Disclosure.
