ABOUT
THE
CHOIR
Schola Exe, is the senior choir for students in Years 9 – 13. It is jointly directed by David Davies (Assistant Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral) and Rachel Smith (Assistant Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral School). After a successful trial from February to July 2012, we are delighted to announce that Schola Exe will be continuing to provide high quality music making opportunities for young people in Devon. The repertoire is as varied as possible, with a mixture of sacred and secular music, from the Renaissance to modern day pop classics and songs from the shows. Weekly practices are held on Saturdays from 11.30am – 12.45pm in either Kalendar Hall (the Music Department of Exeter Cathedral School) or the Cathedral Chapter House. Admission to the choir requires the successful completion of an audition. You will need to have a prepared song to sing to us (please bring an accompaniment too) and we shall also do some simple ear tests. Auditions are arranged as soon as possible after the receipt of your application. We invite parents to make a termly donation to contribute towards the running costs of Schola Exe (we suggest £30 a term). In June, Schola Exe gave its first concert in the Quire of Exeter Cathedral. In October, some of the Schola Exe girls will be joining with Exeter School's Sixth Form Girls' Choir to sing in Holst's 'The Planets' in Exeter Cathedral as part of the Two Moors Festival. In November, Schola Exe will be joining with adult singers under the baton of Laurence Blyth to sing Faure's 'Requiem' in the liturgical setting of the Eucharist for All Souls' Day in the Cathedral. All staff are subject to Enhanced CRB Disclosure. Parent helpers are Julia Edwards, Ann German and Suzie Nelson.
