to the home of the Devon County Junior Choir - this is an exciting new
musical
opportunity for children aged 8 to 13.
This site includes details about the choir, the organisations who have helped to create it, and how to join in the fun !
This exciting programme has come about through a collaboration between the Devon Music Service, the Music Department of Exeter Cathedral and Exeter Cathedral School. The project is part of a nationwide outreach scheme organised by the Choir Schools Association and Music and Dance Scheme. It is a major strand of the Music Manifesto's National Singing Programme. DCJC is also supported by the Royal School of Church Music (Devon Area) and the community at Buckfast Abbey.
Early in 2007, the government announced a £10m package of measures to boost singing and music education in primary schools in England. The cash is to fund a national singing campaign in primary schools led by composer Howard Goodall who has been named as a new "singing ambassador." Following a highly successful Outreach pilot project in the Spring of 2007, the new project which includes this Junior County Choir began in Autumn 2007..
